                                                                                        Chapter 36
                                                                            The Swords of Fire and Ice
 
      The ice dragon that had been launched from Kenchi's sword had hit it's mark, kicking up a huge cloud of dust and debris. Kenchi Laughed hysterically as he stared at the cloud, however his victory was far at hand, as he
watched a huge
glowing orb of energy fired from within the cloud aimed straight at Kenchi. Leaping out of the way the orb crashed into the ground and exploded letting loose a huge burst of energy that nearly took Kenchi off his feet. Turning to where the orb came from Kenchi saw five figures standing there. Sure enough it was Kakashi, Yusuke, Giatsu, Sasuke and Ichigo all unharmed as if the ice dragon hadn't even hit them. Kenchi looked dumbfounded as he smirked and said.
 
  "Care to share how you survived my attack?" Kenchi stood and waited as Yusuke stepped forward.
 
  "Yeah that'd be because of me there big guy. I'm not sure if you really understand who it is your dealing with. You see I am a freelance spirit detective named Yusuke Urameshi. This here is my son Giatsu, and these are my friends Sasuke, Kakashi and Ichigo, and were here to get our friend back!" Yusuke lunged forward towards Kenchi and let loose
a flurrry of punches
that Kenchi seemed to have a hard time dodging before a blindside kick to the left side of his head send him on a one way path to the ground. Using his hand as leverage Kenchi flipped himself over and successfully landed on his feet, standing up straight he stared at Yusuke and proclaimed.
 
"Very well then mister Urameshi, PREPARE TO DIE!!!" Kenchi began to gather his energy before letting loose a barrage of ice shards at him. Yusuke backflipped away from several of them before energizing his fists with spirit energy and he began punching them as they soared towards him. Yusuke then glanced back at the group and hollered out to them.
 
"GO...FIND ZERO! I CAN HANDLE THIS GUY!" Yusuke turned his attention back to Kenchi and launched himself head first into another cloud of ice shards. Sasuke turned to the others and said.
 
"Yusuke's right lets get going." Sasuke, Kakashi, Giatsu and Ichigo
took off through the
large door that appeared to be the front entrance to the palace. As they got inside they ran down what seemed like endless passages twists and turns before coming to a very large room. As soon as they got inside they all noticed the immediate temperature change. Before it had been really cold, now it was unusually hot. slowng there pace to a walk Ichigo asked.
 
"Whoa did someone mess with the thermostat?" again there was silence as noody seemed to respond to his joke, Ichigo then said. "Are you guys deaf or something?" At Ichigo's question Giatsu turned and replied.
 
"First off what the hell is a thermostat? Secondly were not deaf were focusing on finding Zero so we can get the hell out of this place." Giatsu turned his attention back to the room they were in. Before Ichigo could reply a loud crash came from behind them quickly all four of them turned around to see the gate on the door to the room slam
shut. A strange
growling sound was heard as the room began to seemingly get even hotter then before, turrning again the group saw a man that looked more like a werewolf then a man his body was covered in a black and gray fur, he was at least eight feet tall. His jaw protruded from his face, teeth bearing and a slobbery white drool was oozing out of his mouth onto the ground. His eyes were glowing a crimson red as he stared down at them. He was wearing what appeared to be torn black jeans and he had a shoulder pad on his left should with a belt wrapping around his
torso to connect on the back. In his hand he held what appeared to be a blood red sword, it didnt appear that there was anything special about the blade other then it appeared to be emmanating a strange red glow similar to the one Kenchi was wielding. The werewolf leapt down to land in front of them. Still growling he stared straight at the group before saying in a growling voice.
 
"Welcome
to my room warriors, I am known as Raphael and I am under orders from my master not to allow you to pass. However if one of you can defeat me then you may pass." Raphael stared at them a minute before asking. "Now which of you will face me? Or if you would prefer you may all come at me at once." Raphael laughed and began to pace back and forth as Giatsu and the others turned to face one another. Kakashi was the first to ask.
 
"Well then who wants to take him on?" the group stared for a moment before Giatsu said.
 
"Let me take this guy on, heh i'll end him quickly so we can move on." Before Giatsu could move to attack Sasuke interjected.
 
"Wrong Giatsu, whoever it is that kidnapped Zero he clearly wants you, and if you fight this guy it'll only drain your power for when you face him. We don't know how many more of his thugs will be waiting for us deeper inside the palace. I will handle
him and I will meet up
with you later. Now then I will cause a distraction for you to get past him. Are we all clear?" Sasuke glared at the others who shared glances with one another before nodding simultaneously. Sasuke turned back to Raphael and took two steps forward before saying to him. "I Will be your opponent." Raphael chuckled and replied.
 
"You? I was hoping to face one of the others but you will do just fine." Raphael shook himself a little bit before readying his stance to attack. In turn Sasuke stared down his opponent a moment before rushing towards him, as he got closer Raphael prepared and also leapt forward taking a swing with his blade, Sasuke easily leapt over the swing and drawing his snake sword brought it down aiming to slice Raphael's head clean off. Raphael raised his head and his jaw dropped open an eruption of flame poured from his mouth straight at Sasuke nailing him head on. As his flaming corpse hit the
ground with a thud Raphael
laughed and stared at him before saying. "That was pathetic, HAHAHA!" As Raphael laughed a felt a sting as Sasuke's snake sword pierced through the back of his chest straight through, portruding from his chest whee his heart is. Sasuke smirked  little as Raphael watched the Sasuke in front
of him vanish into a cloud of smoke. Sasuke then said to him.
 
"You underestimated me, poor decision on your part." As Sasuke contemplated his swift victory Raphael turned and swung his blade at him. Sasuke released his snake sword leaving it embedded in his back as he arched himself backwards to avoid the swing of the blade. With a swift motion Sasuke's foot smashed into Raphael's chin sending him soaring into the air. As Raphael soared straight up Sasuke held out his hand and it began to glow with a blue light as he launched himself into the air he thrust his hand forward he called out. "CHIDORI!" He thrust
the attack into Raphaels back and
his opponent cried out as Sasuke's lightning encased hand pierced through his back and came out his gut. Quickly pulling back Sasuke grabbed ahold of his snake sword that was still embedded in his body and tore it out, kicking off of him Sasuke twisted his body so as to land successfully on his feet. Watching as Raphael soared through the air and crashed into the ground
Sasuke chuckled and shook his blade throwing the blood of his opponent off. Turning to leave he felt a hand grab the back of his head, yanking him back Sasuke felt the repeated force of being punched in the back, coughing up blood Sasuke was slammed into the wall, Raphael pulled him back and smashed him into the wall several more times before Sasuke formed hand signs and just as Raphael smashed him into the wall again a log appeared and with a puzzled look on his face Raphael turned to see Sasuke knelt down roughly twenty feet from him coughing
up blood on the ground. Raphael
howled with laughter as Sasuke mumbled. "How...did you survive?" Raphael smiled a sharp grin as he replied.
 
"The secret is mine you foolish little boy. Now then are you ready to die?"
 
  Yusuke dodged another wave of ice blasts from Kenchi as he continued to get closer. Yusuke knew it by how badly Kenchi was trying to keep him away from him that physically he couldnt be very strong. However Kenchi was definetly making it hard for him to get close enough to land a direct blow. Yusuke smashed through another huge icicle that soared towards him. Raising his hand he cried out.
 
"SPIRIT GUN!" Yusuke fired the spirt gun at him and then using his speed watched as Kenchi dodged and appearing behind him Yusuke swung his fist into his back, Kenchi cried out before laughing and a shattering sound was heard as Kenchi turned to ice and exploded, ice scattered everywhere. As Yusuke landed
Kenchi's ice sword impaled into
the ground. Yusuke looked at his surroundings he sighed and crossing his arms he said. "That was way too easy." Moments later a steam like substance began to fill the room, immediately Yusuke turned his attention to the ice shards on the ground. They were melting and turning into the steam that was now filling the room. Kenchi's laughter once again was heard as the steam began to manifest itself into Yusuke's opponent. As Kenchi came back into form he smirked and in turn crossed his arms saying.                                              

"Well then, shall we continue? Mister Urameshi." Kenchi stepped forward and gripped ahold of his blade and withdrew it from the ground. Yusuke smirked and pulled out the little pez dispenser looking item that had been in his pocket. Kenchi smirked as Yusuke popped one of the soul candies in his mouth separating his soul from his body, stretching a but Yusuke
cracked his neck and said to his body that
was now occupied by a mod soul.

"Go and find a safe place to hide." Yusuke smirked as his body ran off to hide, he then drew his Zanpakuto and readied himself against his oncoming opponent.

 Giatsu, Kakashi and Ichigo continued to rush down the seemingly endless corridors. As they continued on there path Kakashi turned his head a bit and said.

"If we find another room with some wierd henchmen of this guys ill handle them you two can go on ahead." Ichigo then replied.

"Sounds like a plan to me." Ichigo glanced over at Giatsu who gave him a reassuring nod as they proceeded down more seemingly endless corridors.

 Sasuke stood across from Raphael who just smirked at him before saying with an evil grin.

"The time for games is over weakling, I hope you've said your prayers because the battle is about to be over." Raphael chuckled and held
out his hand, energy began to swirl around
and form into a ball in the center of his palm before expanding and glowing like the light of the moon. Sasuke stared at this before activating his sharingan. Raphael laughed as he twitched his claws and the ball in his hand began to pulsate as he then exclaimed. "Now, take this my eclipse bomb!" Raphael pulled back and thrust his arm forwards launching the eclipse bomb straight at Sasuke who instinctively leapt up over it. The eclipse bomb slammed into the wall and exploded erupting into a huge explosion the force of which nearly threw Sasuke into the wall. By the time Sasuke turned Raphael had already prepared another eclipse bomb of which he was in the process of hurling it  at him. Sasuke readied himself and held out his left hand, it was then engulfed in lightning energy. Raphael hurled the bomb at him and Sasuke lunged forward thrusting his arm outwards he called out.

"CHIDORI!!" Sasuke slammed his chidori into the eclipse bomb and a
huge surge of energy erupted. Sasuke clenched and gritted his teeth in pain as he felt his arm getting torn apart. Finally Sasuke pushed even harder and his chidori finally tore into the eclipse bomb letting loose a huge explosion that threw Sasuke back into the wall. The impact into the wall shattered a couple of his ribs as he landed on the ground he coughed up blood onto the ground. Raphael laughed and said.

"Now do you understand you pathetic little runt. You never stood a chance against me. Hehe now then it's time to die." Raphael then held out his hand and began preparing another eclipse bomb. Sasuke realized there was only one thing he could do so gritting his teeth he opened his right eye and activated his mangekyou sharingan causing his eye to bleed profusely as he called out.

"AMATERASU!!!" From Sasuke's eye black flames erupted soaring towards Raphael. Who in the midst of creating his eclipse bomb stopped and eyes wide
he was ignited by the black flame. Howling in pain Sasuke watched as he collapsed to the ground. Forcing a tiny smile he watched as Raphael rolled around on the ground his body burning away to nothing. After a couple of minutes Sasuke who had now closed his eyes noticed that the screaming had ceased. Opening his eyes Sasuke noticed Raphael's blade of fire which was lying on the ground glowing with a strange silver energy. It seemed to be reacting to the Amaterasu. As Sasuke continued to stare he was shocked to realize the blade was absorbing the black flames and in turn it seemed to be feeding a strange energy back into Raphael. Watching a moment long Sasuke realized exactly what was going on. Forcing himself to his feet he grasped his left shoulder that held his lifeless left arm. He watched as Raphael stood up and began laughing as Sasuke interrupted. "I know exactly how you've survived my fatal blows." Raphael smirked and reached down and gripped
ahold of his fire blade and stood up replying as he did.

"Well then little boy, care to explain how you figured it out?" Sasuke then said.

"I didn't notice it until after I caught you in the black flames of my Amaterasu, I realized that your blade began to absorb the inextinguishable flame. However at the same time I noticed the blade was feeding a strange energy into your mangled body repairing it. Now then would you care to tell me how your sword is able to pull off something like that?" Sasuke stared at him a moment before responding.

"Ahhh very well then, since your about to die I suppose I can tell you. You see the big man up top cast an ancient spell upon these blades after discovering there regenerative powers. He then linked the blades to us so as to in a sense make us practically immortal. Do you understand now?" Raphael chuckled as Sasuke held out his right hand it began to surge with the same familiar
lightning energy as before. Raphael having watched this chuckled and went on to say. "Ha! If it didn't work the first time you tried it what makes you believe that you have any chance of beating me?" Raphael watched as Sasuke smirked and replied to him.

"I understand now how to defeat you, I hope you've said your final prayers you waste of space." Sasuke channeled more energy into his lightning engulfed hand before raising his hand and as Raphael readied himself Sasuke let loose the tremendous surge of energy straight upwards, it crashed through the ceiling and soared upwards through the ground until it tore through to the open it then soared into the sky releasing itself. The energy unleashed and the clouds began to darken and swirl. Thunder clapped loudly and lightning struck all around. Raphael shook his head a little bit before laughing and saying.

"That's it? That's how your going to beat me!? Hahaha that's pathetic, I've
had enough you worm now you die." Raphael burst forward towards him as he got halfway towards him Sasuke chuckled and said.

"This is my final jutsu, face the wrath of Kirin." Sasuke brought his hand down and on the surface people were running and screaming like crazy causing Naruto and the others to be alerted as a gigantic dragon made of lightning crawled from the black cloud and plunged into the ground tearing its way through shaking the ground stopping Raphael dead in his tracks. He glared at Sasuke a moment before making an attempt to rush him again, however before his foot even touched the ground the lightning dragon crashed through the roof slamming into him and in turn slamming him into the ground causing a gigantic explosion to erupt throwing Sasuke into the wall. As the explosion continued to flare everyone felt it. Yusuke's fight with Kenchi came to a screeching halt as the explosion tore up the area. Giatsu, Kakashi and Ichigo
stopped immediately turning to debate whether or not to turn back to help there comrade. Deciding to push on they came to a large door. Entering the room they soon came to realize that it was another room they had already been in. Giatsu turned around to the others and said.

"We've been running in circles." Kakashi then replied.

"I'm starting to have a wierd feeling about all of this I think it's best if we turn back and check out our options." Nodding in agreement the trio of warriors turned to exit the room only to find that the door they had come in was gone. Checking there surroundings they found that there were no doors at all. Ichigo stepped forward and hollered.

"ENOUGH OF THESE GAMES! GET OUT HERE AND FACE US!!!" There was nothing but silence as the three of them began searching for a way out.

 Sasuke laid on the ground barely conscious as the cloud of smoke pouring from the crater that was now
the room. Opening only one of his eyes he couldn't see more then a foot in front of him. Turning his head to forcibly sit up he managed to sit up on his knees with his right arm trembling horribly he felt a sharp pain run through his body as he puked up what seemed like an endless of surplus of blood. Rolling onto his back he was breathing heavily as the smoke cleared and the sunlight from the surface shined through. Within minutes the smoke had cleared almost completely prompting Sasuke to force himself to sit up and forcibly stand up. Hobbling over to the edge of the crater Sasuke saw what was left of Raphael as he lay in piece on the ground. Scanning the ground with his vision fading he saw what was left of the blade of fire as it lay shattered on the ground. Glaring at it Sasuke noticed that it was starting to glow silver as Raphael's disembodied head began to sprout tiny tendrils that began to rebuild his body slowly the skeleton had been formed as
were most of the muscles and internal organs as Raphael regained consciousness and started laughing hysterically before attempting to stand but just as he got to his feet the blade of fire suddenly sputtered out of control before seemingly imploding in on itself. Sasuke was relieved to see Raphael turn to dust and fell to the ground. Sasuke smiled a little before collapsing and passing out in a pool of his own blood.
